We're
Western Wholesale Energy
An ONIT Company
Western Wholesale Energy (WWE) helps small and mid-sized businesses in Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan lock in predictable electricity and natural gas rates, the kind of commercial pricing usually reserved for large corporations.
In Alberta, we are energy brokers. Alberta’s energy market is deregulated, which means the province does not set the price you pay for electricity and natural gas, and you are free to choose your own supplier. The catch is that most businesses that never actively make that choice end up on a regulated default rate, which is often higher than the cost of a competitive contract.
In Manitoba and Saskatchewan as a licensed energy retailer, we work alongside your utility to negotiate fixed-rate energy contracts on your behalf. Your energy still comes from your local utility, and your bill still arrives the same way, we just help you lock in the rate you pay per unit of energy, so you’re protected from market volatility.
What is the difference?
While most small businesses are stuck with fluctuating utility rates, large companies buy energy in bulk through contracts negotiated in advance. At WWE, we do the same on your behalf, helping you access the wholesale market, compare your options, and secure a stable rate that fits your business.
We’ve served over 45,000 (and counting!) Canadian business accounts since 2014, and we’re backed by Shell Energy North America, one of the most trusted global energy providers. We’ve served over 45,000 (and counting!) Our Company’s Mission
We believe that procuring energy for your business shouldn’t be complicated and that SMEs in Western Canada deserve the option of a custom contract and the best offer. Our mission is to level the playing field by offering clear choices, transparent terms, and real peace of mind. Our energy advisors understand the nuances of each industry we serve, and our energy brokers in Alberta will work hard to secure your business the best rate.
What We Do (and How We Fit Within Your Utility Service)
Since 2014, we have supported Canada’s small and medium-sized businesses, from auto repair shops to restaurants, manufacturers, and property managers, with fixed-rate contracts.
-
We work alongside your utility, not in place of it
Your local utility continues to deliver electricity and/or natural gas to your property, maintain the infrastructure and ensure system reliability. Nothing changes in how service is delivered to your business. -
Your utility still issues your bill, and we set your contracted rate
As a licensed retailer, we provide custom commercial electricity and fixed-rate natural gas contracts in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, typically ranging from 1–5 years. Your utility continues to issue and send your bill. In Alberta, as an energy broker, we are searching for the best rate from the competing utilities. Once you choose one, they will deliver your service.
Why Businesses Choose WWE
In Manitoba and Saskatchewan, we are a boutique energy retailer. This means we have the ability and expertise to create a custom energy program that suits your business needs.
Our model allows us to assess your operational profile, understand how and when your facilities consume energy, and recommend contract structures that align with your planning horizons.
Because we have access to wholesale energy rates, we can offer this option to small and medium-sized companies in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. This ensures your organization has a clear path forward in managing long-term energy requirements with confidence.
In Alberta, WWE operates in a deregulated market, and our energy brokers have years of expertise advising on SME energy use across the industries we serve. We work hard to get you the best rate.
